OFA Health Testing
OFA Health Testing
We are proud to assist with health testing for your dogs. Screenings for Hip and Elbow Dysplasia are performed by one of our veterinarians, with x-rays sent to OFA for grading and certification.
We also offer OFA Thyroid testing through MSU (Michigan State University) and OFA Patellar certification for dogs over 12 months old.
FAQ
How old does my dog have to be for OFA Hip and Elbow Radiographs?
They must be a minimum of 2 years old for certification. However, preliminary results can be obtained prior to that.
Will my dog need to be sedated for radiographs?
Depends on your dog! While some dogs are comfortable being positioned without sedation, sedation may be recommended or required for your pets comfort.
Can OFA radiographs be performed if my female dog is in/near her estrus cycle?
They can, however it’s not recommended as it could give a false assessment of the hips
When should I test my dog for thyroid certification?
- Dogs should not receive any type of thyroid supplementation for 3 months prior to thyroid testing.
- Dogs should not be tested within 30-60 days of vaccinations.
- Overnight fasting prior to the blood draw is preferred.
- Female dogs should not be tested during an estrus cycle.
